Description: A night of films about artists and the creative process. Local filmmaker D.W. Young will introduce his recent short Ami Underground (2009, 17min) about subway sketch artist Ami Plasse. Followed by a special screening of Beautiful Losers (2008, 90min) a fantastic recent doc from directors Aaron Rose and Joshua Leonard. A colorful and celebratory portrait of Generation DIY artists,  the film follows the lives and careers of a loose collective of influential artists who came of age in the post-Reagan era of skateboarding, graffiti, punk and indie rock subcultures, and have gone on to change the landscape of American art and design. Features Spike Jonze, Mike Mills, Shepard Fairey, Mark Gonzales, Thomas Campbell, Ed Templeton, Harmony Korine and more.

Description: Wednesday May 19 we pay tribute to an American treasure and Bed-Stuy native Lena Horne with a screening of the classic musical Cabin in the Sky (1943, 98min), with Horne, Ethel Waters, Louis Armstrong, Rex Ingram, Duke Ellington and his Orchestra, and many more.
